The Test of Money

Jesus said in Luke 16:11If therefore you have not been faithful in unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?

This is a test

True riches are the things of God.

And our testing ground is obedience to Gods word in areas of money. But Jesus is interceding for to pass every step of this test.

A friend came to me and asked for my help. He needed to make a major purchase at a business I worked for and wanted me to help him get a good deal. We did the paperwork and when it was time to find his financing we were in trouble.

He had major credit issues. He had 9 jobs in 11 years. He had several layoffs and gaps in employment, and a couple of medical issues that had caused him to have bills he could never pay.  His credit report was stressed. I knew him to love God and I had seen him in church at every service. I knew he went to every Christian event that came to town. Yet he was broke. I wondered how this can happen.

All my life I had heard the blessing of God would follow the righteous, yet this mans story was so common that I was not even a little surprised. About half of my Christian friends that came for business help had the same story. Ok what’s the problem?

Why do so many believe in God, believe in the blessings and promises of God and yet still struggle in every area of their life?

I started studying the word and I began to see that God does promise us much.

  • 2 Corinthians 9:10-11  —“Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.”
  • Romans 8:32-33 — “He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?”

Wow! With those kinds of promises how could any believer be broke?

We need to look at the other side of the deal. God mandates several things that we must do. God gives wealth to the people that he can trust with it. As we prove ourselves in the concepts from Gods words we see our world change. We are going to look at those concepts and see why we are not blessed so we can chose to change.
